Diets are not a problem for balanced people. Do you consider yourself a balanced person? So do I. In fact, my life is in balance probably 70% of the time. According to our educational grading scale, 70% is passing, so I feel justified.
I was at peace with myself until one of my local television stations introduced the popular fruit diet. Ordinarily, I wouldn't have been interested, BUT I needed to loose weight quickly because one of my speaking engagements was going to be videoed. Therefore, I had to loose ten pounds to balance the ten pounds I heard the camera adds.
Vanity took over. I could lie to myself, pretend to be disciplined, and adjust my attitude temporarily to loose weight. Food, exercise nor over-eating would be a problem for the next fourteen days on the fruit diet.
Things were going rather well until my husband made a comment about my stash of chocolate candy. As I explained to him, I didn't need my stash of chocolate because fruit satisfied my desire for something sweet. But I did recognize that in my sharp response to him that my attitude toward dieting was not genuine.
Vanity, self lies, lack of discipline, and a justified attitude cannot produce the rewards of true weight loss. So I had to re-think the weight loss process and make a commitment to it if I wanted to get rid of my "big bones" excuse.
For all you skinny people who have never had a problem with weight, this is not for you. We all have issues, yours just isn't a weight problem. As you struggle with your issues, remember to extend the same kindness you want others to give you. That said, I'll now return to my big-bone sisters.
Take a Genuine Self-Assessment. Are you happy with you - whether you're in pictures, on video, or just having a good time? If you are satisfied with who you are and the body you have, regardless of what others say or think, be content.
What is the Current Status of Your Health? Your body must last you for a lifetime. Take very good care of it. Don't limit yourself or your life choices by having a body that is not in the best possible condition to serve you.
Commit to a Healthy Lifestyle. Someone said, "Eat to live rather than live to eat." That's not a bad saying. Find other things in life that bring as much or more happiness than food. Try getting a massage, manicure and pedicure, volunteering, serving others less fortunate than yourself or mentoring.
Remember that you have worth and value. You can achieve whatever you desire.
